Belgian printer Antilope wins gold in the Sappi European Printer of the Year Award Books category with the help of Creo technology
Waterloo, Belgium (June 25, 2004) – Creo EMEA was delighted to learn of the Belgian Antilope Group's recent capture of one of the coveted 2004 Sappi European Printer of the Year awards. Headquartered in Lier, near Antwerp, Antilope won gold in the Books category of this prestigious international contest organized worldwide by the paper manufacturer Sappi. Marc Binnemans, Managing Director of Antilope, accepted the award on the occasion of a spectacular gala ceremony in Dusseldorf (Germany).
37 printers from 13 countries across Europe and the Middle East were honored with gold, silver and bronze awards in seven product categories in the European division of this year's competition. An international panel of experts was called on to select the winners from 1812 entries submitted by 782 printing companies, and the jury were unanimously agreed that the general standard was exceptionally high.
Top marks with Creo
The top award went to Antilope for its book Rallé – Master of the Town of Consuls. This extravagantly produced work features the paintings and drawings of the Macedonian artist Rallé. It was printed in four-colour sheetfed offset with Creo Staccato FM screening. Among other things, the book was finished with UV and spot varnishing, foil stamping and blind embossing.
The panel of judges described the Antilope art book as "full of technical excellence, with special treatment and optimum binding". Antilope is a long-standing Creo customer who recently invested in the Prinergy PDF workflow, a second Lotem 800 Quantum thermal platesetter and a Veris contract proofer. Antilope has also acquired a set of Synapse tools with the intention of optimizing operations and setting up a digital network that will ease collaboration both internally and with its clients.
Philippe Berte, Sales Director Benelux at Creo, is thrilled that Antilope's success was driven by Creo technology: "Antilope is a member of the European printing industry's avant-garde – one of a select few companies who set benchmarks at the top level with achievements of outstandingly high quality. It fills us with pride that these achievements are facilitated by our technologies."
As winner of a gold award, Antilope is now in the running for the title Sappi International Printer of the Year. The decision is due to be announced in Cape Town (South Africa) in October 2004.
